Led by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, representatives from 13 nations have gathered in St. Petersburg to discuss the fate of the few thousand tigers left in the wild. Just one hundred years ago tigers numbered over 100,000. Now, it is estimated that only 3,200 remain outside of captivity.

During the last week of June, I had a chance to visit the Channel Islands. My family went camping on Santa Cruz Island, part of Channel Islands National Park off the coast of Southern California. We spent five days out there, hiking and kayaking and generally enjoying the awesome beauty of the islands.

Such disturbing images from the gulf oil spew. Let’s just hope it motivates the nation and Congress to get off of fossil fuels. These environment diasasters are horrible…but the more dangerous and irreversible effect is the melting of polar and glacial ice, rising sea levels and overall climate change.
